Gosford made their way around the Oxford ring road full of confidence, with a strong side and a returning Harry Sutton at 10, writes Liam Donnelly
The game started as a very scrappy affair, in which both Gosford and Quins shared possession for the first 10 minutes or so. Deadlock was broken on 12 mins: Just outside the home 22m line, Quins took a line out which was overthrown. This was snapped up by Rhys Andrews at the tail who ran in beating a couple of defenders to score. Con missed 0-5
Just 5 mins later but this time around 40m out the same thing happened and Rhys Andrews once again showed great pace to score, this time George Pamenter slotted the conversion 0-12
Gosford had their tales up and started to dominate play. The next score was on 22 mins. Strong running by Pat Mackenzie in the Gosford half drove them up the field. Quick recycled ball to Harry Sutton who gave a wide pass to Gerardo Pradillo to make a break and offload to skipper Miles Johnson. Jonno was tackled 15m out but a quick pick up by no. 8 Joe Piggot allowed him to drive to the line and score. Con missed 0-17
The bonus point try came on 26 mins where strong pressure in the quins 22 forced them to kick. Returning the ball with a tidy break was Harry Sutton who gave the pass to Sam Malton who produced a great finish and score. George Pamenter hit the conversion 0 - 24
Gosford’s last score came after some great phase play from the team and some strong carries allowed some gaps to appear in the Quins back line. A nice pass from Harry to Elliott Newell, allowed him to step 1 player and score. Con missed 0-29
Fair play to quins who came back at Gosford and pressured the side to score 2 tries before half time. Leading to a half time score of 14-29
The second half started more like the 1st and again it was Gosford who scored first with a penalty by George Pamenter on 45 mins 14-32
The next score was also from Gosford. Rhys Andrews grabbed his 3rd of the day, breaking off from a driving maul and into the corner. Con missed. 14 - 37
Quins never gave up though and hit back with another converted try. 21 - 37
Gosford were next to score though. Again off a driving maul in the corner, except this time it was Dan Hughes who scored. Con missed 21 - 42
Gosfords last score was on 68 mins where the ever-dominant scrum 8m out drove Quins back towards their line. Dan Hughes at 8 picked and dived over the line to get his 2nd. Con scored by George Pamenter 21 - 49
Quins secured their try bonus point right at the end if the game to finish the scoring at 26 - 49
A lot to be said for some of the play and Harry back at 10 made a big difference to the tempo of play.
Some huge performances in the pack, Joe Piggot at 8 was huge and Rhys Andrews bagged 3 tries. But the Tap Social Player of the Match was Pat Mackenzie who was huge in defence and attack all game.
We now have a big week ahead to Chippy at home
