At last, a win for the under 30s (62-20) and a promising future for the club. More young front row needed though.

Dinner Dance and Unders vs Overs - a message from the Chairman
Dear All,
Dinner/Dance
I would like to thank all those who came to the Dinner Dance on Friday night and supported the club at the end of season dinner, yet again this proved to be a successful night and a sell out as well. A special thanks goes to Tony Baughan (Master Chef) for a fantastic meal and I personally hope he’ll be available for next year’s do. I will announce the date for next year's event as soon as the committee have decided on the best weekend to hold the event. This will be announced in good time to enable everyone to get the date in the diary and book early to avoid disappointment for what plans to be an even better evening than this year.
Awards:
Clubman of the Year
Player of the Year
Young/Most Improved Player
|
Rick Benito - who also received a special award for 25 years of service to the 1st XV
Dan Thiele - without a doubt a huge asset to the team
Luke Burbidge - who puts fear into anyone running at him (but punches like a girl)

Overs Vs Unders
Congratulations to the unders for an emphatic win over the overs this year (at last!). This is the way it should be and wonderful to see that Gosford All Blacks have such a wealth of talent at such a youthful age, but that’s not to say we don’t want anymore............ I would urge all members to encourage friends, work colleagues and family to come down to GAB and start playing for "the club of choice in Oxfordshire". We want to build a strong and formidable squad and start winning some silverware, the unders will play an important part in this regeneration. (You never know I might even dust off the boots and play again!)
It will all start in June (Tuesday 2 June) with pre-season training and the GAB committee have committed to add to the coaching team to help and support Smudger's already great efforts; all we ask from the players is that they commit to training nights on a regular basis, work hard on the moves and fitness levels.
Gosford All Blacks has a great future.......... come on guys, it's your club! Look forward to seeing you all soon.
Best Regards
Nick Jones
Chairman GABRFC

Bus trip to Harwell report
28 people came on to the coach from Gosford to Harwell.
The players were dropped off at the club and non-players were taken to the club’s pub in Harwell village for some pre-match warn up drinks. Brought back to pitches for kick off there was a small crowd of Gosford supporters, buoyed by some fans who elected to not travel on the coach including 3 Osbornes who didn’t even stop to put a load of washing on following their return from holiday before heading straight out for the game. We were still outnumbered by the home support rallied by both the importance of the fixture and the terrible news that befell their club that morning.
Following the crushing victory the coach delivered players and fans alike back to Harwell’s pub to celebrate and have a bite to eat. Taco restrictions meant the desired pub crawl home didn’t happen. Instead we were issued back to the club to support the Gosford Youth end of season celebrations where a number of awards were handed out by senior players. Bodsy even got a kiss.
With a little more time to get passengers & a planned route back with plenty pubs the day could’ve really been a day to remember, as it was a great game was followed by a great night out helped by us all arriving back to the club together. The Juniors looked like they had a pretty good night too and the judging by the fact the U16s player’s player of the year was bigger than me already, the club has an excellent future. The seniors moved onto the Bells for more merriment, ending in town for those still up for it later on.
Thanks to all who came on the bus – next year we have to have more of them, but they have to be well supported!

Pub Golf a success!
The Good Friday session of Pub Golf was a success. Rain failed to stop play as organiser James Gardner made sure the event went as smoothly as possible. By the end of the 9 holes the only casualty was the megaphone, which ended up behind the bar after having been used extensively for the whole event.
There was a tie for first place by the end of the event, with Marc Grant and Luke Burbidge both tied on 26 under (9 strokes). During the play-off Marc rolled back the years to beat his younger competitor at downing a pint of bitter and cider.
Following the event some more games ensued in the back room of The Crown, including a rather revealing game of "I have never".
The Gosford All Blacks Pub Golf Team would like to sincerely thank the pubs of Woodstock for their hospitality, understanding and tolerance during the event.
I'm sure everyone is looking forward to the next tournament in the series in Kidlington.
Gosford hit 100 tries for the season!
With the 3 tries against Newbury Stags at the weekend (Jefferies, Ellis, Eynon) Gosford have reached 100 tries for the season so far. In addition, Gosford were the first team this season to put 3 tries past the league champions Newbury Stags. Good effort everyone!!

New Lead Coach for 2008/9 season
Gosford are delighted to announce the appointment of Alec Smith as Lead Coach for the forthcoming season.
Alec (normally known as 'Smudger') has gained coaching experience over the last ten years with junior sides at Gosford and Bicester, and was asked to take on the role of backs coach to Chinnor's U19 Academy two seasons ago.
A Gosford player for many years, he started playing for the Colts in 1981 and progressed to the first team in 1982, continuing to play there until 2003. He also played for several Royal Navy ships teams during his career in the forces, as well as Saltash RFC in Cornwall.
He aims to bring an element of 'Forces style' fitness training to the club to allow Gosford to play some fast running fifteen man rugby this season. Overall, a modern slant will be put on the game plan which it is hoped will see Gosford do far better this year.
He says "I've learnt a lot from working with some good coaches over the last few seasons, like Clive Davies and Andy Baulch and also from recent tutoring from Lynn Evans, the Godfather of local rugby coaching. Now it's time to step up and find out what it's all about. I'd like to wish Clive and Andy all the best in their new appointments at Rugby Lions Development Squad."
You can contact him to discuss the forthcoming season at alec-smith@supanet.com.
